BORN OF GOD

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

Light is a motif John uses to explain the coming of Jesus. The entrance of Jesus into the world is the dawning of a new day. The long night of darkness is receding at last.

Jesus is gradually breaking out over the earth to reveal the true shape and color of things. To bring warmth and light and life to mankind!

All the prophets and teachers who came before were faint starlight. Dim reminders of hope in earth’s dark night that the full Sunlight of God would rise in His time!

And so it is Jesus who reveals for the first time what it looks like to live a life in the full light of God. In His Person and in His Teaching, students of Jesus bask in the noonday brightness of God.

Paradoxically, some are like blind men who cannot see a sunrise - He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.

But for those who will see Jesus for whom He is, John announces a new birth. A spiritual rebirth by the will of God!

Yet to all who received him - To those who believed in his name - he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

Once children are born, they have a lifetime of learning ahead of them. The parents responsibility is to teach and train their children.

Once we become children of God, we have the same responsibility. To learn, and follow in our Father's footsteps - shown to us plainly by our Brother - and Savior - and Lord - and Teacher.

How today can we follow in Jesus' footsteps?
    1 John 2:6!
