WATER AND SPIRIT

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too.

Jesus submits to John’s baptism. By doing so, He expresses His faith in the coming kingdom too. In fact, He is bringing it to earth.

But something more happens when Jesus is baptized. Jesus receives the Holy Spirit. What an awesome sight this must have been!

And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove.

God has come to earth in the Person of Jesus. Now God sends the Holy Spirit as a seal of approval and empowerment for His mission.

And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.

Luke adds - Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.

Jesus is the example for all who will follow Him. Today, anyone who expresses their faith in Jesus by submitting to baptism also receives the Holy Spirit.

Man administers baptism in water and Jesus gives the Holy Spirit. It is one baptism with two elements. One visible – water. One invisible – the Holy Spirit!

In this way, every Christian is also given God’s seal of approval. The Holy Spirit! And empowered by the Spirit to fulfill their mission to become more like Jesus!

Not water only but water and the Spirit!
