You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.
Life soon teaches what it means not to be chosen. Everyone has experienced how it feels not to be included. Left out!
Here Jesus changes all that. The Teacher from heaven has made a choice. He chooses us!
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
God makes no mistakes in His selection. He knows the purpose for which He has chosen us will be accomplished – to bear fruit, fruit that will last!
And the principle fruit the Teacher produces in our lives is love - My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
We are able to produce the fruit of love in our lives because we have received His love. Jesus’ love is received and internalized so powerfully that it becomes who we are also.
Being chosen and loved leads to a life of loving God and becoming empowered to choose to love others also!
This is the fruit that will last, because God is love. And His love expressed is Jesus, coming to save us and to guide us.
In love, Jesus chooses us. We joyfully receive it, and like His love ours to finds outward expression. Love flows from our hearts to our fellow human beings.
From the Father’s heart to Jesus. From Jesus’ heart to ours. From ours to others.
This is why we are chosen.
This is my command: Love each other.
