KING OF TRUTH

Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.

Is there anything quite as satisfying as being right? The desire to be right - and the pleasing feeling that comes over us when we are -should tell us how deeply we must all want to know the truth.

Yet, here Jesus indicates some may not realize how intensely they need and want the truth. And as we know, not everyone makes the conscious choice to come to the side of truth.

Like Pilate who questioned Jesus, many have other things they want more than truth.

Power, fame, money, acceptance, even peace are traded for what is true and good. Pilate will give up The Truth to a Roman cross for some or all of these things!

And how does Pilate brush off what must necessarily be an uncomfortable, close encounter with the truth?

With the question of a skeptic, much too preoccupied to listen to his own heart’s yearning for truth. Mindlessly, Pilate mouths, What is Truth?

Amazing! The Truth is standing in front of Pilate and he doesn’t come to His side – doesn’t question further - even when Jesus plainly tells Him who He is.

You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.

Students of Jesus have taken the side of truth. They pay closer attention to the Teacher every day. They experience the deep satisfaction of knowing and living in the truth.

Unlike Pilate, they listen. They worship and follow the King of Truth!
