As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them…
Where’s Jesus? That’s the question on the hearts of two downcast and confused men as they leave the city of Jerusalem.
Their hopes are dashed. They expected Jesus – this miracle worker and Teacher - to liberate them. Instead the authorities crucified Him.
And now there are confusing reports about a resurrection. The tomb is empty. But where’s Jesus?
This turns out to be such a beautiful story because Jesus is right there with them. He’s actually walking and talking with them, although they are prevented from recognizing Him.
Why them? Why Cleopas and another relatively unknown person?
Notice what is on the mind of these two men. It is Jesus they are thinking and talking about. And anywhere and everywhere someone is showing up for class, the teacher is not late!
This is what the Teacher always does!
In the most distressing times of life - in confusion, frustration and even despair – sometimes students are tempted to ask, “Where’s the Teacher?”

Ever had this happen? Troubling times and Jesus walks up? It's comforting - when recognized.

Jesus works through His students.
