Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
With His dying words, Jesus teaches His students where following Him will ultimately lead. To the true source of life – the Father.
Jesus dies as He lived. With extreme dedication to His Heavenly Father! His daily commitment to the Father was unquestioned. It will be no less in death.
Jesus’ life was lived in devotion to His Father. His life was directed by the Will of the Father. The desires of the Father informed His every thought and action.
Into the everlasting loving Hands of God! This is where the Teacher directs His own life at the end of the day.
And this is where He leads us.
This is what being a student of Jesus is all about. This is what we learn from Him.
For only Jesus reveals God to us. It is He who teaches us how to live a life given over into the Father’s Hand.
As we listen to the Teacher, day by day, we are learning more about what it means to please God. We are also being gradually changed to become more like the Teacher in heart and life.
At the end of our days, the question will be, “Into whose hands did we commit our spirit?”

ReplyDeleteHow sad for them - proud, feeling victorious, for killing the very Son of God.
Hopefully those who did this were also in this crowd:
36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. (Acts 2)
How do we react to this news today?
Are we still cut to our hearts by our sin?
Are we daily submitting to Him?
Dying to self? Living as He did?
