Build An Ark

No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

All attempts to predict the time of Jesus’ return are futile. Here the Teacher says nobody knows. Only the Father!

This hasn’t prevented many from trying though. The Christian era has seen more than a few red-faced prognosticators, embarrassed by their miscalculations.

Jesus only says when it finally comes it will be like the days of Noah. People will be going about their business as usual. Just like the day when the rain started to fall and turned into the great flood.

Nobody expected it! Only Noah and his family were prepared! Every plank and timber they placed in the ark structure was a testimony to their faith in God's warning about what was going to happen.

Now, if Jesus might come at any time, what should we be doing? Luther was once asked what he would do if he knew the world would end today. He answered that he would plow his field.

We know what he meant. He would go about his business as usual because Jesus was always a part of everything he did. Even in plowing, he would be paying attention to His Teacher.

Real students of Jesus include the Teacher in every moment of life. On the job, at home, at play, not just at church services!

The real business of the student of Jesus is to pay attention to the Teacher all the time. Become a little more like Him. In this way we are always preparing our hearts for His return.

And in this way, we too are building an ark of our own – plank by plank!

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come!

  1. It is interesting and ironic to me how many people will spend time trying to predict the return of Jesus rather than spending time getting themselves ready for His return!
