Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two…they went out and preached…
Here Jesus sends the Twelve out to preach. This doesn’t seem possible! Are they really qualified?
A few months ago they were fishing, collecting taxes and doing other jobs. They have no seminary training. No Master’s Degree in Religion.
But they’ve been with the Master Teacher. This is their only training and the full extent of their preparation. And now they are qualified to represent Jesus for this one reason alone – they’ve been His students.
Isn’t this all that’s required? They have something to share because they have been with the Teacher – learned from Him!
And remember, it isn’t their idea to share the message of Jesus. The Teacher sends them out with His power and authority.
But their faith to fulfill this mission will be tested. In the crucible of this new experience, they will learn to trust God for all their needs.
These were his instructions: "Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts.”
They will go out to share the message of Jesus with only the clothes on their backs, the shoes on their feet and sticks!
How excited and even apprehensive they must have been as they went forward to fulfill the Teacher’s assignment.
This experience will teach them that God is able to provide everything they need to survive and accomplish this task and even greater ones waiting in their futures.
They will find out. When Jesus gives a mission, He also gives the provision!
Being a student of Jesus is the most exciting and daring kind of life, don’t you think?
