IT ALL FITS

The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

Here Jesus applies a quote from Psalm 118 to Himself. The religious leaders have already rejected Him! Soon they will persuade the people to do the same.

According to tradition, during the building of Solomon’s temple, a large perfectly cut stone was sent up from the quarry. However, the builders could find no place to use it.

It was a huge stone and in the way, so they rolled it off the temple mount down into the Kidron Valley.

Later, when it was time to hoist a cornerstone into place, the builders sent word to the quarry for it. You guessed it! The masons informed them it had already been delivered!

Then someone remembered the stone they had rolled over the cliff. With some difficulty it was retrieved and fit perfectly into place. The rejected stone became the cornerstone!

This is Jesus!

In fact, He knows in a few days God’s chosen people will find no use for Him. Demand His death. And when He is driven out of the city His rejection will be complete.

But He also knows this will not be the end. He will be resurrected, accepted, and become the perfect foundation for God’s new temple, the church!

We see it now. It all fits! He is the cornerstone upon whom we build our lives!

I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. (Psalm 118:21)

  1. It amazes me how the "tenants" treated the "servants." But really, it was not the servants (prophets) that the people rejected, it was God Himself.

God tells Samuel when the people wanted a king, "it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king." (1 Sam 8:7)

Some servants they beat, others they killed. They didn't listen to any of them.

So now that Jesus has been sent, and He is the Son. And he was rejected by men, but set on High by God. His is the blood of the new covenant. He established the New Kingdom, the new temple, the church.

So how do we act in ways that we are guilty of rejecting the Son?

When we don't follow His commands, His example, and when we don't apply His teachings to our lives, are we not rejecting Him? And in doing so Rejecting God?

    Tough thoughts...
