IS IT TRUE?

Now I am going to him who sent me…But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away.

Jesus says it will actually be good for His students when He is goes back to the Father. Not only good for Him, but for their benefit also!

Is it true?

How is it possible that Jesus’ physical absence could be a good thing, even a better circumstance for them?

Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

The internal presence of Jesus through the Holy Spirit will be better for them than what they experienced before:

He will convict the world of sin…righteousness and judgment.

The Spirit of truth…will guide you into all truth.

He will tell you what is yet to come.

The Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

The Teacher going to heaven is good because He will return to them with greater power and force through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

It is true!

These first students of Jesus didn’t really become very much like their Teacher during the three years they followed Him. It was only after the coming of the Holy Spirit that we begin to see marked changes in their hearts and lives.

This is the work of the Teacher on the inside of His students through the power and influence of the Holy Spirit. For through the Holy Spirit the Teacher produces the fruit of His character in the life of every student.

  1. Can you imagine how these eleven men must be feeling right now? Jesus has just painted a pretty bleak picture of their future. The world will hate them, they will be put out of the synagogues, even the time is coming when whoever kills them will think that he does God a service. Has your life ever changed in such a way that you felt what these men must have felt? All this news is bad enough, but to top it all off Jesus says He's going away and they can't come. Sheep without a shepherd, students without a teacher, children without a parent, soldiers who have lost their general. So what's the good news? Where's hope? I tell you the truth, I'm sending the comforter. Sometimes all we have to hold on to is God's faithfullness in that he cannot lie,and always keeps his promises. Jesus gave them somethings to hold on to. Words that I'm sure brought them hope. Truth and comforter are two things that invoke a feeling of hope for me. But hear what he says about the prince of this world. The one who is responsible for what would be coming. He is judged! So when things get bad know that Satan has already been judged. He's a liar! Jesus tells us truth, shows us truth,He is the truth. The comforter He promised them, he promised us. He's here with us now. So whom shall we fear? Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
